Brake Repairs in Pretoria

Squealing, grinding, a soft pedal or a car that pulls when you stop? We inspect the whole brake system, explain exactly what is worn and quote before any brake repairs start. Our workshop is in Wonderboom South, close to Gezina and an easy drive from Pretoria North.

Why it matters

Brakes are not a wait-and-see repair

Most brake problems start small and announce themselves early. A squeal from the pad wear indicator, a slight vibration through the pedal or a longer stop than usual are all chances to fix the problem while it is still a pad change, rather than pads, discs and a caliper.

Waiting makes brake repairs more expensive and less safe. Pads worn down to the backing plate score the discs, a sticking caliper overheats one wheel, and a fluid leak can make the pedal go soft with little notice. If something about your brakes feels or sounds different, book an inspection promptly.

Warning signs

When to book a brake inspection

Squealing brakes

A high-pitched squeal when you brake often means the pads are getting thin and the wear indicator is touching the disc.

Grinding or scraping

A harsh grinding usually means the pad material is gone and metal is rubbing on metal. Have it checked right away.

Vibration when braking

A shudder through the pedal or steering wheel under braking often points to uneven or worn discs.

Long or spongy pedal

A pedal that sinks further than usual, or feels soft, can mean air or moisture in the fluid, or a leak.

Pulling to one side

If the car veers when you brake, one side may be working harder than the other because of a sticking caliper or uneven wear.

What we inspect and replace

What a brake service covers

We look at the brake system as a whole, not just the corner that is making the noise, because brake parts wear together and one tired component often puts extra load on the others.

Checked on every brake inspection

  • Brake pads on both sides of each axle
  • Discs and drums for scoring, thickness and warping
  • Calipers, slider pins and pistons
  • Brake hoses, lines and fittings
  • Brake fluid level and condition
  • Handbrake adjustment and operation

Where we find wear, we replace or recondition only what is needed: brake pads replacement, disc skimming where the discs have enough material left, new discs where they do not, caliper repairs and a brake fluid change. Brake replacement is never assumed, and you get the quote before any work starts.

Our process

How we handle brake repairs in Pretoria

Measured, explained and quoted before a single part is ordered.

  1. Hear the symptom

Tell us what you have noticed. Where it is safe, we confirm the noise or feel on a short drive.

  2. Wheels-off inspection

With the car on the hoist and the wheels off, we inspect pads, discs, calipers, hoses and fluid on every corner.

  3. Measure and explain

We measure pad and disc wear and show you what we found, then explain whether skimming, replacement or a repair is needed.

  4. Repair

Once you approve the quote, we replace or recondition the parts agreed and bleed the system where the work calls for it.

  5. Road test

We road test the car to make sure it stops straight and the pedal feels right before you collect it.

Questions

Brake repair FAQs

How much does it cost to replace brake pads?

It depends on the vehicle, the type of pads it uses, and whether the discs or other parts also need attention. We inspect the brakes and quote after inspection, before any work starts.

Why are my brakes squealing?

Often it is the pad wear indicator telling you the pads are getting thin. Squealing can also come from glazed pads, dust or a worn disc, so have the brakes inspected to find the cause.

Is it safe to drive with worn brakes?

Worn brakes take longer to stop the car and can deteriorate quickly, so book an inspection promptly. If you hear grinding, the pedal goes soft or the car pulls hard when braking, avoid driving further than necessary and call us.

Do you skim brake discs or replace them?

Both. If a disc still has enough thickness left after skimming, we skim it. If it is too thin, cracked or badly scored, we explain why it needs replacing.

How often should brake fluid be changed?

Follow the interval in your vehicle's service booklet. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which can affect braking, so we check its condition during services and brake inspections.

Which areas do you serve?

We are on Steve Biko Road in Wonderboom South and do brake repairs for drivers from Gezina, Pretoria North, Wonderboom South, Silverton, Akasia, Montana and Waverley.
