Why it matters

What a regular service actually protects

A car service is the cheapest repair you will ever pay for, because its job is to stop small wear from turning into a big bill. Fresh oil and clean filters protect the engine, and a trained eye under the car spots a leaking seal, a perished hose or a thin brake pad while it is still a simple fix.

Pretoria is hard on cars. Summer heat, stop-start traffic on the way to work and a fair share of potholes all add wear between visits. If you are looking for a car service in Pretoria North or the surrounding suburbs, our workshop on Steve Biko Road has been doing this work since 1979, on all makes and models, petrol and diesel.

What's included

Minor and major services explained

Your service booklet decides which service is due. As a general guide, this is what each one covers.

Minor service

An interim service between the bigger ones. Typically an engine oil and oil filter change, fluid top-ups, and a check of the brakes, tyres, lights, wipers, belts, battery and anything that looks out of place.

Major service

Everything in a minor service, plus the parts your manufacturer schedules at longer intervals. Depending on the car, that can include extra filters, spark plugs, brake fluid and coolant, with a closer inspection.

When to book

Signs your car is due for a service

Service light or reminder on

Most modern cars count down the kilometres or months and tell you when the next service is due. It is worth booking in rather than simply resetting it.

Past the date or distance in your booklet

If the last stamp in the service booklet is more than a year old, or you have driven past the distance it lists, the car is due.

New noises or a change in feel

A squeal from the brakes, a knock over bumps or steering that feels different are worth having checked at the same visit.

Our process

How a car service works at CV Master

Simple, predictable and explained in plain language.

  1. Book in

Call or WhatsApp us with your make, model, year and mileage, and tell us about anything you have noticed. We confirm the service due and a time to drop the car off.

  2. Check the booklet

We look at your service history and the manufacturer's schedule, so the right minor or major service is carried out rather than a generic one.

  3. Service and inspect

We change the oil, filters and fluids the schedule calls for, then inspect the brakes, tyres, belts, battery, suspension and steering with the car on the hoist.

  4. Report back and stamp the booklet

If we find wear or a fault, we explain it and quote before doing anything outside the service. Once the work is done, we record it in your service booklet.

Questions

Car service FAQs

How often should I service my car?

Follow the interval in your manufacturer's service booklet or the service reminder on your dashboard, as it varies between vehicles. Cars that do a lot of short trips, sit in stop-start traffic or tow regularly may need attention sooner.

What is the difference between a minor and major service?

A minor service usually covers the oil and oil filter, fluid top-ups and a safety check of the brakes, tyres, belts and battery. A major service adds the parts your manufacturer schedules at longer intervals, such as extra filters, spark plugs or brake fluid, along with a more detailed inspection.

How long does a car service take?

It depends on the vehicle and the type of service due. We confirm the expected time when you book, and let you know straight away if we find anything that needs more time.

Do I need to service my car at the dealer?

Check the terms of your own warranty or service plan, as these differ between manufacturers and plans. If you are not tied to a dealer, we service vehicles to the manufacturer's schedule and record the work in your service booklet.

How much does a car service cost?

The price depends on the vehicle, the parts and fluids it needs, and whether a minor or major service is due. Send us your make, model, year and mileage and we will quote before any work starts. If we find a fault during the service, we quote for it after inspection.

Which areas do you serve?

We service cars for drivers from Pretoria North, Wonderboom South, Gezina, Silverton, Akasia, Montana and Waverley at our workshop on Steve Biko Road. Drivers from further afield in Pretoria are just as welcome.
